Wines Of Alsace

The northeastern French region of Alsace is a paradise year-round, but especially in summer. Along with the dry, warm and sunny climate, half-timbered houses throughout the region’s villages are dotted with brightly-colored flowers; al fresco dining near the canals are commonplace; and the grapes grow plump as the vines unfurl their leaves and stretch ever-taller.

Not surprisingly, Alsace produces a wine that is just as charming as the scenery while capturing the festive nature of the season: Crémant d’Alsace. As one of the top selling sparkling wines in France, Crémant d’Alsace undoubtedly has its fair share of fans within its homeland, and for good reason. These elegant bubblies are made in the traditional method but can usually be found for $25 or less.

Crémant d’Alsace also uses classic grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The former is the only red grape variety allowed to make these food-friendly sparkling rosés, while the later is strictly grown for Crémant production. But more often than not, the region’s signature aromatic grapes—Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris—comprise the white blends.

Vibrant and dry, every pop of the cork brings refined effervescence, complex flavors and exuberance to match the spirit of summer and its bounty of cuisine. From complementing a wide array of seasonal dishes, to sharing at picnics and toasting on the beach, Crémant d’Alsace is the final touch to make any celebration sparkle.
