Wine of the Week: Dopff & Irion Pinot Blanc Cuvée René 2016
March 25, 2019
This pleasing wine made by Dopff & Irion offers a lemon-yellow color in the glass, and aromas of ripe, bruised yellow apple, honeycomb, wax and wool are carried through to the palate—where it meets a savory herbal quality. Hints of bright fennel, menthol and tarragon lift the wine from its ripe yellow-orchard fruit compote texture. This Pinot Blanc is round and glossy in the mouth, with a tinge of acidity on the finish, so it finishes clean. This is a warm, approachable wine with a lovely, clean expression. It’s perfect with a white bean and sausage soup on a cold night, or grilled white fish in the summer.
