Wine of the Week: Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire 2014
December 18, 2018
Pale gold in appearance, this wine has a very expressive and exotic nose with notes of smoky flint, honey, ginger and ripe yellow plum. Produced from vines grown in limestone soils (calcaire), on the palate it’s rich and earthy but not opulent like Pinot Gris often can be. Instead, it features a clean line of chalk, acid underneath the ripe yellow fruit and ginger spice. There’s an almond-skin tartness on the long finish that makes you reach for the glass again. Drink this now, but it can also age a few more years. An excellent choice for roasted meats or mushroom dishes on a winter night.
