Wine of the Week: Domaine Weinbach Cuvée St Catherine Grand Cru Schlossberg 2016

September 05, 2018

Produced from the steepest granite-based terroir of the Schlossberg Grand Cru in Alsace, this acid-driven Riesling packs a lot in its elegant bottle: yellow apple and mango, peach, ground ginger laced with wet stone and a mineral character, all coming together in a round, rich palate. The woman-owned domaine takes its name from the small stream, Weinbach—meaning “river of wine”—that runs through the ancient property, once tended by monks in the 9th century.

Like most of the domaine’s bottlings, this is an age-worthy wine, but if you can’t resist, enjoy this rich Riesling with white meats and rich fish such as tuna or salmon.
