Alsace 101: 7 Lands of Christmas

December 26, 2018

The Christmas markets of Alsace—some of the oldest in Europe—are known throughout France, with the oldest “Christkindelsmärik,” created in 1570 in Strasbourg.

Part of the Christmas experience includes festivities around seven different themes relating Alsace’s traditions of food and wine, folklore, music and art. Can’t choose? Then check out the “The Land of Christmas Stars,” which features wine-producing villages, valleys, and some of the jewels of the region: Colmar, Riquewihr Kaysersberg Ribeauvillé of historic Neuf Brisach, the latter a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Each has a market or a festival themed around food, music or dance, found here on the Alsace Tourism’s special site devoted to the holiday season.
